Praise for budding artists and their vibrant pictures
In this difficult time, for children and young people in particular, An tSnáthaid Mhór and Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich found the number of participants and interest in the colouring competition hugely uplifting and the quality of pictures fantastic. All pictures were independently assessed and we’re delighted to announce the winners today.
The colouring competition was based on the wonderful book and learning resource, Muireann agus an Dianghlasáil, written by Malachy Doyle, illustrated by Andrew Whitson and translated by Myra Zepf. The book is available for free download in English, Irish and Welsh and can be accessed on www.antsnathaidmhor.com The next book in the series, Muireann agus an Teach Solais (Molly and the Lighthouse) is now on the shelves, so be sure to keep an eye out for it.
The renowned authors Malachy Doyle and Myra Zepf and talented artist Andrew Whitson were the competition judges. They were very impressed with the standard of entries and were full of praise for all the budding young artists
Myra Zepf:
"What a joy-filled project this has been! Malachy's words, Andy's pictures, and now these beautiful colours in these artworks by the children. I loved being part of this book and this competition. All the young artists deserve a huge clap on the back for bringing smiles of purest delight to our faces during lockdown."
Andrew Whitson:
“I was pleasantly surprised at the high level of creativity which took the competition to the next level. Not only did one entry express their own version of Molly, but another presented their page as a collage! Combined with the entry that depicts hand washing across nationalities and another that uses a vibrant colour scheme, this has proved to be a competition which celebrates only the best in talent near and far. Well done everyone and keep creating!”
Malachy Doyle:
“So many entries, from near and far! So much talent! So much variety! Well done to everyone for bringing colour to my words, for bringing joy to Molly's lockdown.”
