As we celebrate the Festival of Imbolc, we are delighted to announce that Ériu will launch their beautiful new album, Maidin Fhómhair, Ériu’s second album to date, here in Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich. Fusing our rich Gaelic tradition with influences from European music and song and elements of jazz, Ériu provide a rich, beautiful sound which is certain to seduce the listener.
Ériu are a Belfast based trio composed of singer Caoimhe ‘Ceol’ Ní Chathail, the piper, bouzouki player, whistle player and vocalist, Aodán ‘Jaff’ Mac Séafraidh and the guitar and bouzouki player Frank Cassidy.
Ériu came together in 2016 when Jaff brought his two friends, Caoimhe and Frank together to play a little music and very quickly a vast collection of songs and tunes came together that Frank was interested in providing accompaniment for.
From that, opportunities to present music on stage came forth and it soon became clear that what Ériu were producing was in demand. They have now performed at many events and venues such as Electric Picnic, McCracken Summer School, Oideas Gael courses and many more.
The band’s highlight to date was providing support for amazing musicians such as ZODOMO - Zoe Conway, Dónal Lunny and Máirtín Ó Connor, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Dónal O Connor and Gerry O Beirne and John Spillane and of course releasing this album!
There are eight tracks on Maidin Fhómhair and it is a representation of the wide variety of styles that Ériu can adapt to and link with traditional music. This cd is a true hybrid between traditional music and song and international songs which have been lovingly translated to Irish.
This album was recorded in Belfast by Dermot Rooney who recorded, mixed and produced the music and he is definitely our ‘George Martin’.
