Ceiliúrann an cheolchoirm speisialta seo cnuasach thar a bheith pearsanta d’amhráin, de scéalta agus de chomhoibrithe ceoil atá fréamhaithe i dtraidisiún amhránaíochta sean-nóis Dhún na nGall. Trí chomhrá, cuimhní agus ceol, tugann Diane léargas ar an inspioráid agus ar an chomhthéacs cultúrtha a spreag na hamhráin atá le cluinstin ar an albam agus sa leabhar.

Join acclaimed singer Diane Cannon for the launch concert of her new bilingual book and accompanying album, Mín na Craoibhe.

This special launch concert celebrates a deeply personal collection of songs, stories and musical collaborations rooted in the Donegal sean-nós singing tradition. Through conversation, memory and music, Diane explores the inspiration and cultural background behind the songs featured on the album and in the accompanying publication.

Produced by Dónal O’Connor, the album features musical accompaniment from Steve Cooney, Conor McCreanor, John McSherry, Francis McIlduff and Paul Meehan, alongside string players from the Ulster Orchestra under the direction of distinguished composer Paul Campbell.

The collection, published by Éabhlóid, draws on conversations with singers and tradition bearers who shared these songs with Diane, amongst them Brian Danny Minnie Ó Domhnaill, Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin, Lillis Ó Laoire & Cathal Ó Searcaigh, revealing the stories, memories and living traditions that continue to keep them alive today.

This very special launch concert has become an even more exciting occasion with the announcement that Diane will be joined on stage by an exceptional ensemble of musicians. Acclaimed fiddler, pianist and producer Dónal O’Connor will lead the musical arrangements, bringing his distinctive blend of traditional and contemporary influences to the performance. Described by The Irish Times as a “fearless musical adventurer”, Dónal has performed and recorded with artists including Paul Brady, Horslips, Moya Brennan, John McSherry, Michael McGoldrick, Davy Spillane, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Duke Special, Ríoghnach Connolly and Liam Ó Maonlaí.

Joining him is outstanding multi-instrumentalist Darragh Murphy, one of Ireland’s finest exponents of the uilleann pipes and whistles. From Newcastle, County Down, Darragh has shared the stage with Sharon Corr and Foy Vance, and has toured internationally with both Riverdance and Celtic Woman.

Completing the ensemble is Belfast’s acclaimed Arco String Quartet, one of Ireland’s leading chamber ensembles. Arco have collaborated with an impressive range of artists including Villagers, Beoga,  Duke Special, SOAK and The Darkling Air. Their versatility and expressive playing bring warmth, texture and cinematic beauty to every performance.

Produced by Dónal O’Connor, Mín na Craoibhe is a deeply personal collection rooted in the songs, stories and singing tradition of north-west Donegal. Through conversation, music and performance, Diane will share the inspiration behind the book and album, while these specially commissioned arrangements provide a stunning backdrop for her unmistakable voice. Blending the intimacy of sean-nós singing with beautifully crafted arrangements for strings, fiddle, piano, whistles and uilleann pipes, this promises to be a unique and unforgettable celebration of language, heritage and song, and one of the standout events of this year’s Belfast TradFest.

This promises to be one of the highlights of Belfast TradFest. Diane has strong connections with the city, having lived here for ten years, and particularly with Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich, where she worked for a time and developed a close affinity with the people, the city’s Irish-language community and the building itself.
